Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are encouraged by the news in the Daily Star after it was reported that Southampton defender Nathanial Clyne is emerging as a top target.
It is reported that United are moving closer to agreeing a £20 million deal for the 23-year-old this January and they have sent out scouts to watch him as they look to finalise the deal.
Louis van Gaal’s scouts assessed the defender in the Saints’ 2-1 win away at Newcastle United last weekend and their feedback was overly positive.
Punters believe it will be good if the Red Devils landed Clyne so he could replace Antonio Valencia at right wing back and if signed, he would of course join Luke Shaw who arrived at Old Trafford from St Mary’s for £28 million last summer.
United have also been linked with Seamus Coleman in recent weeks but it is believed that Clyne is a more favourable target due to his age.
