Man United edging closer to deal with World Cup winner

ValdesManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been relieved to see a long saga edge closer to an end with today’s reports and they have raised a glass in the hope they’ll never have to endure a similar situation.

The Daily Mail claims Victor Valdes is edging closer to a loan switch to Standard Liege, in a deal that would see him move to Belgium until the summer when he becomes a free agent.

Valdes only recently arrived on an 18-month deal but has fallen out with Louis Van Gaal, which saw the experienced goalkeeper miss the pre-season training camp in America and banned from training with the first-team at Carrington.

The former Barcelona shot-stopper has vast interest in his services though, rejecting moves to Turkey and Mexico recently, whilst Newcastle United failed with an approach earlier this month as Van Gaal would prefer to move the player abroad.

As a World Cup and European Championships winner, Valdes has vast experience and at 33-years-old he still has a number of years to offer at a high level. He’s said to be keen on a move to Liege, though it depends on whether the two clubs can find an agreement regarding his wages.

Our landlord hopes an exit for Valdes will be completed soon, as he believes he’s far too good a player to not be playing regular football.
