The Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperately waiting for news of their next signings after the announcement of Swedish defender Victor Lindelof last month.
Manager Jose Mourinho has been linked with a number of top names over the last few weeks, however, a new one has made it’s way to the bar this evening.
According to reports from Spanish outlet AS (via Manchester Evening News) the Pourtuguese boss is looking to follow up the signing of Lindelof from Benfica with another defender in the shape of Marc Bartra from Borussia Dortmund.
The former Barcelona man has only been in the Bundesliga for a season but Mourinho has supposedly seen enough to be convinced that he can bring something to his back line for the new season.
The Red Devils boss berated his back line on numerous occasions over his first season in charge, questioning England international Chris Smalling’s pain barrier upon return from injury.
And our landlord reckons that with Eric Bailly and Lindelof both now in place, a deal for Spanish international Bartra would certainly spell the end for Smalling at Old Trafford as Mourinho looks to continue his overhaul.
