Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern enjoying items from our new nibbles menu are intrigued to hear reports that state their number two Ryan Giggs is keen for the club to sign a Premier League star.
The Sun states Giggs wants to sign Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as a possible replacement for David De Gea, who continues to attract the attention of Spanish giants Real Madrid.
29-year-old Schmeichel, son of Giggs’ former team-mate Peter Schmeichel, has starred for Leicester this season in their shock push for the Premier League title- which has raised his reputation in English football.
Whilst it’s stated De Gea does not want to move to Real Madrid just yet, he does see his long-term future in the Spanish capital and Zinedine Zidane is ready to push for a move in the next few weeks due to the transfer ban imposed by FIFA.
Schmeichel’s Premier League experience makes him a favourable target for the Reds, who also hold interest in Inter Milan’s Samir Handanovic- widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the continent.
Our landlord believes Schmeichel would be a good replacement for De Gea but is concerned about comparisons to his father that may follow if he moves to Old Trafford, which he isn’t certain anyone can match.
United fans, would Schmeichel be an adequate De Gea replacement? Let us know in the comments below!
