Man United eyeing move for exceptional La Liga defender

Laporte.jpgManchester United fans playing pool in the Transfer Tavern are pleased to see that work for next season is underway, with the Red Devils eying a new target from Spain.

The Manchester Evening News states Manchester United are keeping tabs on Athletic Bilbao’s highly-rated defender Aymeric Laporte, who is the latest name to join their shortlist of defensive recruits.

Young French defender Laporte is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Spanish football and he already has a wealth of experience with the Basque outfit, experiencing football in both of Europe’s continental competitions.

With United looking to shake-up their defensive ranks, Laporte has joined Everton’s John Stones and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane on the Red Devil’s’ wish-list.

A deal would be complicated to complete though, as Laporte has a £32m buy-out clause and Athletic are notoriously difficult to negotiate with, something United experienced first-hand with their deal to bring Ander Herrera from the Basque county to England.

Our landlord also believes Laporte will want Champions League football if he is to leave Athletic, as he’s settled in nicely with the Spanish side.

United fans, should Laporte be your top priority this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
