Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left groaning into their napkins, after hearing a bid for a big name has been turned down.
The Daily Mirror states Manchester United have been unsuccessful with a £19m bid for the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, which was rejected by Borussia Dortmund- who are keen not to lose any more big names this summer.
German giants Dortmund have already lost Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels this summer, to Manchester CIty and Bayern Munich respectively, and they’re keen to keep the rest of the squad intact for Thomas Tuchel.
However, Mkhitaryan’s future remains shrouded in doubt as the Armenia international is refusing to sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring next summer.
Despite the fact Dortmund could lose Mkhitaryan for nothing next year, Tuchel’s side are happy to let the midfielder run down his deal- in a similar fashion to what occurred with Robert Lewandowski, who joined Bayern on a free transfer.
Our landlord thinks this is a smart move from Dortmund, as he always likes it when a club stays firm on the future of a player, but he is wondering whether this will come back to haunt them.
Will Mkhitaryan leave Dortmund this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
