Man United fans call for departure of £76.5m-rated star following player’s recent admission

The Manchester United fans are feeling apprehensive in the Transfer Tavern ahead of their side’s trip to face Huddersfield in the 5th round of the FA Cup tomorrow evening.

Jose Mourinho takes his side to The John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow evening for a repeat of the fixture which saw them lose their first Premier League match of the season back in October.

However, the supporters have turned their attention towards an entirely different issue altogether in the last 24 hours or so, after Romelu Lukaku (valued at £76.5 million by Transfermarkt) admitted to Belgian media outlet HLN (via Sky Sports), that he has every intention of returning to his boyhood club Anderlecht before he retires.

The 24-year-old striker built his reputation at the Belgian club during his teenage years before he earned a move to Chelsea in 2011. Although he ultimately failed to make the grade at Chelsea, his career seems to have been moving from strength to strength since he established himself at Everton in the Premier League.

But his reputation has since suffered a massive blow since his move to Manchester United where every aspect of his performance has been closely scrutinised at a much greater intensity in comparison to what he became accustomed to at Everton.

The Belgian international has scored 19 goals from 37 appearances at United this season, but the supporters have struggled to warm to their new man despite his impressive record.

In response to his comments regarding a return to Anderlecht, the Red Devils faithful encouraged Lukaku to make the move sooner rather than later and harshly suggested that the Belgian is well-suited to the lower standard on display in the Jupiler Pro League.

Here’s what the United fans on Twitter have had to say about Lukaku in response to his comments regarding his long-term ambition to return to Anderlecht…
