Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were far from happy yesterday, as the day brought the news that they’d be beaten to a highly-rated talent, before the evening resulted in their Champions League hopes suffering a major dent.
The Manchester Evening News states the fans have turned of chief executive Ed Woodward, after it was confirmed yesterday that Bayern Munich had beaten the Red Devils in the hunt for 18-year-old Benfica starlet Renato Sanches.
Yesterday, the Bavarian giants announced a £27.5m deal to sign the Portuguese youngster and that brought an end to Manchester United’s hopes of bringing the teenager to the Premier League, where they hoped he would emulate former star Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, the embarrassing collapse of their chances of luring Renato Sanches to England have not been met kindly by the supporters, who have been criticising Woodward once again- having previously lashed at him for other transfer failures.
The lads in the bar share the views of their fellow supporters and are flabbergasted that they have been beaten in the push for the player’s services, which they see as inexcusable.
