Man United favourite tells Mourinho he wants to stay at the club

De GeaManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have received a nice boost today, after a fan favourite is stated to have informed their new boss he wants to stay.

The Sun states Spanish international David De Gea, who started Spain’s opening game at the European Championships, has informed new manager Jose Mourinho that he wants to stay at Manchester United.

De Gea’s future has been shrouded in controversy ever since last summer, when the stopper saw a move to Real Madrid fall through in the dying moments of the Spanish transfer window. It was expected that the Spanish giants would return this summer, although now it doesn’t seem such a move is forthcoming.

Still, it seems De Gea’s mind has been made up anyway as a source said Mourinho played a big part in the player’s decision:

“Jose played a big, big part in this story. If the other one was still manager, David would be a Madrid player today. Jose has been texting David all the time to say ‘stay and play for me’.”

“Madrid have been pushing and pushing the boy to come, but in the end it was his decision to stay in Manchester.”

It gives United a big boost ahead of the new campaign and our landlord thinks this could be the most important piece of news for the Red Devils during this transfer window.
