Man United first-team star reveals plans for Old Trafford exit

Guillermo VarelaManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been thanking their lucky stars today after it emerged that Louis Van Gaal blocked a crucial exit in January.

Urogol states that Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela requested to leave the club in January due to a lack of first-team opportunities but was persuaded to stay by his manager.

Varela saw first-team chances limited during the first-half of the season but immense injury problems for United, which saw Matteo Darmian one of those injured, have handed the young Uruguayan his chance- and he’s taken them with both hands.

However, it could have been so different as Varela confirmed his plans to exit when speaking to Uruguayan radio show Tirando Paredes:

‘First I wanted to leave, but Louis van Gaal asked me to stay. He gave me the opportunity and luckily I’ve played for many matches in a row.’

Our landlord feels this was a huge moment for United’s season as with Varela in the side, the Red Devils have fought back to find themselves in Champions League contention once again.

United fans, how impressed have you been with Varela in recent weeks? Let us know in the comments below!
