Manchester United fans are in a celebratory mood in the Transfer Tavern as the week begins, with the Red Devils leapfrogging title-rivals Manchester City and Arsenal in the league standings.
They were already on-top of the world but there spirits have been risen further by exciting reports from the continent, as The Sun state Real Madrid’s 4-0 El Clasico defeat has left the futures of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo shrouded in scrutiny.
In the biggest match in club football, Marca voted Gareth Bale as the worst player on the pitch– which is another blow to the Welsh wizard who has struggled to overcome media criticisms during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Now going almost three months without a goal for Real Madrid, Bale has been slated by the local media in the Spanish capital after an embarrassing defeat to Barcelona, which left Los Blancos trailing the defending champions by six points and also allowed Atletico Madrid to leapfrog their city rivals.
United’s hopes of signing Bale have been boosted by suggestions that Florentino Perez will no longer be president, as an insider told The Sun Bale would be sold if that were the case.
“There is no doubt that, if Florentino Perez quits as president, Bale will be sold.”
“He has simply not been good enough and, if there is a shift away from marketing — and football becomes once again the principal reason players are signed — then Bale will be sold as long as Real can make a profit.”
United fans are confident that their club can get the best out of Bale by bringing him back to the Premier League, were he previously starred with Tottenham Hotspur, and hope this transfer can be agreed soon.
