Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are gearing up for a delayed Premier League finale against Bournemouth this evening but with Champions League qualification realistically out of the picture, the focus has very much been on potential transfers.
The Daily Mirror states the Red Devils have started their search to improve their midfield ranks by scouting Sporting Lisbon duo William Carvalho and Joao Mario, as they intend not to miss out following Renato Sanches’ surprise move to Bayern Munich.
Carvalho, 24, and Mario, 23, are two of Portugal’s most promising young players and they could be set for an exit this summer, after the Lisbon-based club failed to win the Portuguese league at the weekend despite a 4-1 win over Braga.
The pair are likely to excel on the international stage this summer during Portugal’s campaign at the European Championships and United will be keen to get their foot in the door first, to reduce the risk of missing out on the duo.
However, our landlord believes United may struggle to persuade the duo to snub Champions League clubs in order to seal a move to Old Trafford.
United fans, should this pair be top of your transfer wish-list? Let us know in the comments below!
