Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen their hopes of securing a world-class defender this summer boosted significantly by the latest reports and the news has got the champagne corks popping.
TalkSport, reporting via French outlet Le 10 Sport, state Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, who has found first-team opportunities this term extremely limited in big games.
Despite featuring regularly in La Liga, the French international has found himself benched for big games, particularly in the Champions League, and that’s led to the 23-year-old considering his future with Los Blancos.
There will be major interest in the young defender if his services become available though, with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain also keen, but United’s hopes could be boosted if Jose Mourinho replaces Louis Van Gaal.
Mourinho is a big fan of the young defender and has worked with him previously whilst managing Real Madrid, leading our landlord to believe the Red Devils are the favourites for his services if Mourinho does land the job.
Is Varane the quality defensive star Manchester United are lacking? Let us know in the comments below!
