Dortmund’s Mario Goetze has been linked with a move away from Germany after his incredible displays for the Bundesliga side earned him an international call up as well as widespread attention. Matthias Sammer, Germany’s technical director called Goetze “one of the best talents that we’ve ever had.”
Known for his impressive speed and skill, Goetze is extremely creative and at the tender age of 18 looks to be a world class talent. With seven assists out of his 21 games for Dortmund he has also pitched in with four goals as his team have took the German top division by storm.
Versatility is another of Goetze strengths and he is able to play anywhere behind the striker. He is mostly deployed on the right for Dortmund but for Germany U17’s and U19’she played directly behind the striker. He has won the Fritz Walter medal twice as the best player of his age group (U17’s and U18’s) and was playing for Dortmund’s U17 team at the age of 15.

Good with both feet and able to adapt the only reason anyone could baulk over the price tag is his history of injuries. Whilst coming through the ranks at Dortmund he suffered a succession of problems and missed a lot of playing time. His coach, Juergen Klopp, won’t let his playmaker leave without a fight as his youthful team enters the Champions League fray – the first time since 2003.
With his energetic system wreaking havoc domestically he will want to test his methods on the European stage with all of his stars intact Goetze has already stated that he is “shocked” about all the speculation and the sizeable clubs that are interested – whether that means the charms of Man United or the Old Lady would prove too much for him to reject is yet to be seen.
