Man United keen on one of the world’s best but deal seemingly unlikely – Report

Manchester United’s moved into pole position to finish second in the Premier League following a remarkable comeback against arch-rivals and league leaders Manchester City last weekend. United have rumoured with plenty of big-names which is sure to excite Red Devils supporters in the Tavern.

One of the many targets that Jose Mourinho’s side has been linked with is former Tottenham winger, Gareth Bale.

The Welshman has endured a torrid time since making a move from London to Madrid for a then record transfer fee of over £85m.

His relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane has hit an all-time low according to the Sun after he was pulled at half-time during Real Madrid’s defeat to Juventus in the Champions League quarter-final.

United are long-term admirers of Bale, but despite being unhappy at the club, Bernabeu officials expect the 28-year-old to remain in Spain next year.

The news would come to a blow to Mourinho ahead of a crucial summer transfer window. The Portuguese added Alexis Sanchez to his squad in January but another summer revamp is expected as he looks to challenge City for the title next season.

Landlord’s Verdict:

While Bale’s quality is evident, his long-term fitness leaves much to be desired. Bale has missed the majority of Madrid’s season with a hamstring problem. Can he be relied upon with United set to challenge for multiple trophies next season? He would command a huge transfer fee as well as high wages meaning United could be better off pursuing other targets.
