Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have become well accustomed to being linked with a number of high-profile signings but the latest report takes the biscuit for many of them.
The Daily Star report Manchester United have been scouting Sporting Lisbon ace Joao Mario since October and are continuing to keep tabs on the excellent 23-year-old ahead of this summer’s window.
Mario, who’s also been touted as a target for Crystal Palace, has shone in the Portuguese league since making his debut as a nineteen year old and he’s scored nine goals in 75 appearances to date.
Whilst that goal record could improve, Mario’s performances have caught the eye and Sporting Lisbon are aware they have a huge talent on their hands- which has led to them inserting a monstrous £55m release-clause in his contract.
It’s unlikely United would have to pay the full price to land this target but the release clause means bidding will start at a much higher figure, although finances are far from an issue for the Red Devils.
United fans, would splashing so much on this target be a good decision? Let us know in the comments below!
