With concerns over Rio Ferdinand’s fitness and Nemanja Vidic continually being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson has turned his attention to the 24 year old defender.
At 6ft 3, Rolando has struck up an impressive partnership with another Man United target, Bruno Alves, at the heart of Porto’s defence with particularly impressive displays coming in the Champions League.
The classy centre back who also has an eye for goal, comes with an endorsement from current Portugal manager and former Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Quieroz who has called him into the Portugal squad.
Rolando is valued at £18m by Porto, which could be a problem especially with Fergie’s recent talk of lack of value for money in the current transfer market.
