The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to secure the signing of Alexis Sanchez during the January transfer window, but the quality of his performances have slightly fallen below expectation thus far.
Alexis Sanchez arrived at Old Trafford in January with the world of expectation on his shoulders following a lengthy transfer saga involving themselves and their local-rivals Manchester City. Initially he struggled to find his feet with the Red Devils, but his performances in recent weeks suggest he is slowly beginning to rediscover his magic touch.
Regardless of the calibre of player in question, moving to a new club often requires a period of adjustment and Sanchez is clearly no exception to the rule. However, the players around Sanchez have often prevented him from reaching the pinnacle of his game, but recent reports from the Manchester Evening News suggest that could be set to change in the summer.
According to the report, Jose Mourinho has cooled his interest in Danny Rose and Kieran Tierney in favour of a summer transfer for Juventus full-back Alex Sandro (valued at £45 million by Transfermarkt). The Brazilian full-back is quite simply one of the best in European football right now, so United’s interest is certainly well-placed.
Sandro’s intelligent positioning and physicality make him a strong defensive asset, whilst his technical quality and desire to make overlapping runs make him a genuine threat in the final-third. The fact Sandro is naturally left-footed will be music to Sanchez’s ears, as he will naturally create space for Sanchez to exploit in the centre of the pitch whilst also giving the Chile international a further option to utilise on the left touch-line.
There’s no doubt about it, Sanchez has plenty to prove to the supporters next season, but Sandro’s arrival at left-back will give him a fantastic opportunity to justify his enormous reputation with the Red Devils.
