Ever since last summer, it’s been quite apparent to those in the Transfer Tavern that David De Gea wouldn’t be sticking around at Manchester United for much longer and the saga is set to reignite at the end of the summer.
Although Sergio Romero has performed admirably when called upon, United are likely to move in the transfer market for a new stopper and The Daily Mirror states the Red Devils have lined-up a swoop for Barcelona’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen,
The German international enjoyed a successful first season in Catalonia, winning the Champions League as part of the club’s treble, but this season he’s found himself playing second-fiddle to Claudio Bravo at the Nou Camp.
With first-team football not guaranteed in Spain, informal contact with the player has revealed he would be open to a transfer. United won’t have it easy though, with age-old rivals Liverpool also linked to the stopper, whilst Borussia Dortmund see him as the perfect long-term replacement for Roman Weidenfeller.
United’s preference would obviously be to keep De Gea, who won Player of the Year at the club last season and is a favourite to retain his crown, although our landlord believes Ter Stegen would be a quality replacement.
