Our fans here in the Transfer Tavern are having a very heated debate following Rafa Benitez’s comments.
Benitez came out after the 4-1 defeat to Manchester United to say you can’t compare Paul Pobga today to the Steven Gerrard of 2004 and this as obviously caused an outrage of tweets between the rival fans.
Each siding with their own, Gerrard at 24 had captained Liverpool to one of the greatest Champions League final comebacks in recent history alongside an FA Cup, two League Cups and a UEFA Cup.
On the other hand, Pogba has been to Italy and won five Serie A titles, along with a host of other trophies including last season’s Europa League so combined they have quite the trophy cabinet.
Some of our punters say, that although titles and cups are great, it isn’t how to measure each individual with both players proving instrumental to their respective clubs.
Pogba was the world’s most expensive last season, while Gerrard became a one club legend before moving to America for his final seasons in the sun after a truly glittering career on Merseyside.
With that in mind, our landlord has had enough of the arguing inside the Tavern and wants a definite answer to the question…
If you could only choose one, would you rather have the current Paul Pogba or the 2004 Steven Gerrard in your midfield?
