Man United managerial-elect identifies Premier League star as prime target

KaneManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are a nervous bunch today, well aware that their season could be defined by today’s derby with Manchester City, but behind the scenes it seems the club are preparing for next season.

The Independent on Sunday state Jose Mourinho has identified Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane as his prime target for Manchester United, should he, as expected, land the job at Old Trafford in the close-season.

Mourinho is widely-regarded as the favourite to succeed an underperforming Louis Van Gaal this summer, with the Dutchman expected to see his reign at United brought to a close a year early- especially if United fail to reach the top-four.

United desperately need striking reinforcements for next season, with Anthony Martial inconsistent and Wayne Rooney a shadow of his former self, and their quest to boast the very best of British talent makes their interest in Kane unsurprising.

The Red Devils have a history with doing business previously with Spurs but persuading Kane, who’s likely to lead the line for England this summer, to give-up Champions League football may be difficult.
