Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been concerned about losing a fan favourite since Jose Mourinho was first linked with the manager’s job- so they’re pleased the player in question wants his future resolved.
Club Call states that Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is keen to open talks regarding a new deal before Jose Mourinho’s expected appointment this summer, with the Spaniard entering his final two-years of his current deal.
The 27-year-old has a rocky relationship with Mourinho after the former Chelsea boss sold the Spanish international to Manchester United back in 2014, for a hefty price of £37.1m.
With the pair not quite on the same page, United fans are concerned they could lose the experienced midfielder and those worries appear to be justified given the history between the two men.
By signing an extension on his current £130k-a-week deal, the board will show Mata is a crucial part of the United set-up and the chances of the Spaniard leaving this summer would decrease.
However, our landlord feels a new deal wouldn’t necessarily assure the talented midfielder of a future at the club and he shares the fan’s concerns.
United fans, how crucial is Juan Mata to your side? Let us know in the comments below!
