Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have raised their glasses in approval after reports stated an experienced member of their squad has rejected a lucrative move to the Far East.
With today being the final day of the Chinese transfer window, the lads in the bar are preparing themselves for some major deals and a few surprises- although it’s emerged one midfielder will not be packing his bags.
The Daily Mirror states 34-year-old Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has rejected a move to China as he looks to prove himself to the club and earn himself a new deal, which is not yet forthcoming.
Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Carrick is out of contract at the end of the season and would therefore be available on a free transfer, although his priority would be to remain with the Red Devils.
Should that not be a possibility though, Carrick will not consider a move to China- but there is an offer on the table from Newcastle United, which may be appealing.
Our landlord would prefer Carrick to remain in the Premier League and he’s glad the midfielder hasn’t jumped on the next flight to China, where he’d be on the receiving end of audacious payments.
United fans, should you give Michael Carrick a new contract? Let us know in the comments below!
