Manchester United fans are always expectant during a transfer window, with the club not shy to opening their cheque book in recent years to ensure some of the world’s finest players are brought to Old Trafford.
This month provides no exceptions, with fans here in The Transfer Tavern strongly suspecting manager Jose Mourinho to be busy in the winter transfer window. United may still be in contention for an FA Cup victory and in the running for the Champions League, but the domestic title all but belongs to fierce city rivals, Manchester City. Over the course of coming windows fans expect the club to prepare a squad capable of winning a first Premier League crown since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, beginning with the 2018 January window. Our landlord caught up with fans from the north west side over a few pints to discuss transfer targets, and the general consensus amongst the Old Trafford faithful was that Paulo Dybala must be strongly considered this month.
Reports had emerged suggesting United had bid for the player this month, and fans are keen to see their side push on with a deal for the player. Dybala is showing all of the signs required to develop into a world class player, and should he be paired with Romelu Lukaku, United could acquire one of the most devastating strike forces in the Premier League. Lukaku’s raw power and ability in the air would complement Dybala’s ability with the ball at his feet, and his insistence upon playing on the shoulder of the last man. The pair’s contrasting attributes make them an ideal duo, and Mourinho’s side could score for fun with Dybala’s former Juve teammate Paul Pogba roaming behind.
A deal this month may be a stretch too far, but if a deal can be sealed in the summer, then United could return to their former glory days sooner, rather than later.
