Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left wondering what might have been, after hearing an audacious fee is required to secure the signature of a big name.
The Daily Mirror states Manchester United will have to pay a British record transfer fee of £78m to land Paul Pogba from Juventus, with Jose Mourinho targeting the return of the French international who left the Red Devils just four years ago for £800k.
Since moving to Turin, Pogba has developed into one of the most finest player’s in the world and his performances have resulted in a wealth of top sides expressing an interest in his services; although United believe they’re at the front of the queue for English clubs.
The most pressing problem for Mourinho is that Pogba would prefer a move to Spain, to either Barcelona or Real Madrid, as he’s keen to experience a different culture. However, it remains to be seen whether either of the La Liga can afford his signature.
United also cannot offer Champions League football, which may be decisive as they two Spanish sides have won the trophy in the last three consecutive seasons between them.
