Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are not quite sure what to make of the recent paper talk (as per the Daily Record) surrounding Paul Pogba, with a move to PSG being touted around the papers in the bar.
Much of the back pages have been made up of the recent rumours that Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has been offering the Frenchman around a host of wealthy clubs to see if a move for the 25-year-old would be on the cards, much to the disbelief of our regulars.
If Pogba was to make a move away from Old Trafford this summer, it’d certainly come as a huge surprise all around the pub. Still, Mourinho would need to replace the Frenchman with the same level of quality in the midfield, especially with the retirement of Michael Carrick and possible other departures in the pipeline.
However, with the financial clout the Red Devils have to hand, our landlord has taken a look around Europe and listed this superstar player has the one that could come into the United squad and take the edge off Pogba leaving…
OUR VERDICT – Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been in outstanding form for Lazio in Serie A this season and, as a result, his stock along with his price tag (£63m rated by Transfermarkt) is on an upward trajectory.
The big and powerful Serbian already partners United’s Nemanja Matic in the national team’s midfield, so to bring him it would make perfect sense for Mourinho and there wouldn’t be a long settling in period needed for the two.
He’s skilful and still only 23-years-old, and a move to Old Trafford would be please everyone in the pub for sure.
