Man United prepare for talks regarding £25m winger this week

GaitanManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern gather on a daily basis to discuss the latest reports they’ve heard and today’s topic of conversation included a long-term target.

TalkSport, reporting via Portuguese newspaper Record, state that Manchester United sent scouts to watch Argentine winger Nicholas Gaitan in action for Benfica against Braga on Monday.

Gaitan has been a long-term target for the Red Devils and Louis Van Gaal’s determination to add a pacy winger to his squad in January has seen a revival in interest for the player, who United failed to secure in the summer as they did not match his £25m release-clause.

Benfica do not want to sell but have been unable to agree a new contract with the 27-year-old and their hapless to defence against any offers should United match his price-tag.

Crucially, the report finishes by stating that United are confident of landing their man in January as they prepare for more formal negotiations with the Portuguese side this week.

United fans in the bar are pleased to see some progression in their January activity, as they grew concerned with the lack of development in the market.
