Man United ready to sign crucial midfielder down to extension

CarrickManchester United fans have been handed more good news following a successful weekend, with reports a key member of their squad is set for a renewal.

The Sun says Michael Carrick will reject offers from other clubs and pen a one-year contract extension with Manchester United, bringing an end to months of speculation.

34-year-old Carrick saw his future in doubt with no new deal forthcoming and it led to a number of links for his services, including from Chinese clubs and Arsenal, but the England international is set to see out his career at Old Trafford.

Following his one-year extension, Carrick will then take-up a coaching role with the Red Devils after being recommended by assistant manager Ryan Giggs.

It means United do not have to worry about replacing a senior member of their squad just yet, which will come as a relief as a major overhaul is required this summer and it could be problematic to ensure success if key players do depart.
