Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been intrigued to hear that their side is eying a vast number of new recruits this summer, including a potential new goalkeeper.
22-year-old Pickford broke into Sunderland’s first-team this season, making three senior appearances, and featured for England’s youth side at the international tournament, which the Three Lions ended in overall victory.
With David De Gea’s future continuing to be shrouded in scrutiny, it’s stated United are eyeing Pickford as a long-term replacement to the Spaniard. However, it could cost them a large sum as the stopper recently signed a new deal at the Stadium of Light.
Former England stopper David James tipped Pickford for an England call-up earlier this season, though the place in the 23-man squad eventually went to Burnley’s Tom Heaton, but it doesn’t seem like it will be too long until the youngster pushes his way into Roy Hodgson’s plans.
Would Pickford be a good replacement for De Gea? Let us know in the comments below!
