Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a busy summer but they’ve been handed their pints this afternoon with some disappointing news, following reports of a bid turned down.
The Daily Express, citing reports from Corriere Dello Sport, state that Manchester United and Wolfsburg both saw offers worth around £23m for Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi turned down by the Italian side.
Icardi has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League and it seems destined to take place this summer, with reports suggesting the Argentine forward is enduring a turbulent relationship with manager Roberto Mancini.
However, Inter legend and vice-president Javier Zanetti insisted earlier this week the young striker is happy at the San Siro.
“There is no Icardi problem, we have great faith in him. The decision to make him captain was shared by everyone. He is very young, but in the locker room he is recognised as a positive leader.”
Our landlord believes Icardi will be on the move this summer but he doesn’t rate United’s chances, stating he believes the forward will demand Champions League football.
