Man United set for transfer disappointment in chase of world class striker

AubameyangManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern should have got used to bad news by now but they’re still throwing their toys out the pram after, shockingly, a world class striker has eyed a move elsewhere.

The Manchester Evening News details a promise Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made to his late grandfather, as he assured his family he would play for Real Madrid in the future.

With 22 goals in the Bundesliga this season, Aubameyang has caught the attention of Europe’s top sides. Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have also been linked to the player’s signature but the Gabonese international has ruled-out a return to France.

“Real Madrid? There’s no deal in place, but… I promised my grandad I’d play there one day.”

“I’ve said to myself, ‘Why go back to France when I left that league three years ago? Why not discover something new? Like I’ve said before, I’d love to play in Spain and to finally enjoy a bit of good weather.”

Aubameyang, who’s mother is Spanish, would certainly fit in well with life at the Santiago Bernabeu and a move could indeed take place this summer as Real Madrid are likely to find a successor to Karim Benzema in their central striking role.

With Manchester United also set to miss out on Champions League football, it’s hardly surprising Aubameyang has his sights set on bigger things.

Would Aubameyang be making the wrong choice by joining Real Madrid ahead of Manchester United? Let us know in the comments below!
