Man United skipper ready to make drastic career change

rooney777Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are on cloud nine after their dramatic success at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, which put them in the FA Cup final, but some are scratching their heads at these comments.

The Daily Mirror quotes Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney as stating he’s ready to drop into a midfield role in the squad and become the new Paul Scholes for his side.

Rooney has struggled for form and goals whilst playing in attack this season but thrived against former employers Everton at the weekend when playing in a deeper role, which has led many to suggest he should make this his regular position.

The 30-year-old forward certainly seems up for it, as he said:

“I’ve known for a few years, I have played there a few times throughout my career and I can play that position,”

“I have played and watched Paul Scholes play that role for years and I always knew that one day that is where I would play so I have tried to learn and watch what he did.

“It is still early days but hopefully if I keep playing there I can develop and get better. I think if I can do that I can free other players up. Obviously it is down to the manager. It is his decision — and for the team, more importantly, it is the right thing to do at this moment in time.”

Our landlord isn’t too sure though as he feels there’s better midfielders available to Manchester United and believes this would just be a way to force Rooney into the starting line-up.
