Metro have managed to divert Manchester United fans’ attention away from the big screen and over to our landlord at the bar here in the Football Transfer Tavern and all because he has some news about Raphael Varane.
The Real Madrid defender has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and now it seems that Louis van Gaal is prepared to put his money where his mouth is and offer £30 million for the Frenchman – which is £8 million more than Real Madrid are asking for.
We still cannot fathom why one of the best defenders in the world will be allowed to leave by the Spanish giants but what we do know is both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal would love to add the versatile player – who can also fill in at right back (and not in a Phil Jones type of way) to their ranks.
Given Mourinho’s personal relationship with the defender, who is one of the three players he is still in regular contact with from his time in Madrid, Van Gaal has decided to try and strike before his counterpart and will ensure Varane’s arrival with the big money bid. Although as one of our punters notes, in a world where David Luiz costs £50 million, that is small change for a player who possesses the calibre of Varane.
Manchester United fans. Do you think £30 million is more than reasonable for Varane? Let us know your thoughts below.
