Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we have been impressed with the form of Manchester United keeper David De Gea this season and for that reason it is somewhat surprising to see United still being linked with a move for excellent Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
The Daily Star suggests that Sir Alex Ferguson has lined up the Bosnian international – who has kept 12 clean season this season despite his side’s relative poor season – as a replacement for current United number two, Danish keeper Andres Lindegaard, who has fallen behind De Gea in the pecking order.
Lindegaard was given the chance to challenge for the top spot at United but he last started a Premier League game in early December and is still two appearances away from collecting a Premier League medal with Ferguson ready to ship him out in the summer.
Stoke and Tony Pulis have already signed a replacement for Begovic in young England keeper Jack Butland who will join the Potters in the summer from Birmingham City despite the current custodian being tied down to a long contract at the Britannia Stadium.
According to the Daily Star, this could see Stoke selling Begovic to Old Trafford and Lindegaard departing in the off season.
Is the continued Begovic to Manchester United talk false? Rate this rumour below.
