Although Manchester United fans are pleased with their sides progress in recent times, a lack of quality in the striking department is halting their progress. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was prolific as the gaffer’s first-choice striker last campaign, but after spending the last 6 months out through injury, questions are being raised as to whether Ibrahimovic can get back to displaying a United standard of quality.
Since making the move to Old Trafford from Paris Saint-Germain last season, the Swede enjoyed one of the most inspired periods of form in his long illustrious career, as he netted 28 goals in his first Premier League campaign.
Indeed, despite having featured in an incredible 46 games last season, he didn’t manage to add to his tally after suffering a serious cruciate ligament injury in his knee, that saw him miss 29 games for the club. Now back into the first-team he’s only managed to make 5 bench appearances with no goals coming from these games, which has resulted in Jose Mourinho becoming fearful of the fact that the striker may not return to his prolific-ways.
Now coming to the end of his sporting life at 36-years-of-age, picking up the serious knee injury at this point in his footballing career may prove too difficult to overcome, with the psychological effects an injury can have on a player becoming evident in Ibrahimovic’s poor recent performances.
So, with the January transfer window edging ever-closer, we’re asking our United-supporting readers, will Zlatan Ibrahimovic be able to get back to his best?
