Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are ready to forget Robin van Persie altogether after the Daily Mail claimed the Red Devils will deploy scouts at Inter Milan’s weekend fixture at Hellas Verona to monitor Mauro Icardi.
Despite Inter currently enduring their worst Serie A season in more than 20 years, this hasn’t stopped Argentine international Icardi registering 15 goals which in itself has alerted Louis van Gaal’s side to his potential availability come the summer.
To add spice to the story, Icardi has already rejected Inter’s offer a contract extension at the San Siro and most punters agree that now is the right time to flee Serie A’s fallen giants in search of a move to pastures new, having established himself in Europe after a spell at Sampdoria between 2012 and 2013.
While we all know that footballers get paid way too much money, our neutrals claim that by performance terms, Icardi is worth far more than the £11,000-a-week he is currently earning with the Nerazzurri and Manchester United would surely be able to quadruple those earnings to £43,000 which Icardi is after.
It remains to be seen where Icardi will end up with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City also having already scouted the 22-year-old hitman.
Despite rejecting a new contract, Icardi has already noted that: “If they (Inter) don’t want to (a departure), I will stay in Milan where I am really good and I’m happy. My family here feels like home.”
