Metro have our regulars looking up from their pints in utter shock here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Manchester United have abandoned attempts to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and have turned to another target.
According to the publication, the Red Devils are considering a bid for Gareth Bale and it would have to be one that bettered the money Real Madrid paid for the Welshman only a couple of summers ago – upwards of £90 million.
That is of course a stunning turnaround by United who had been preparing to bring Ronaldo back to the club but seem to have been deterred by the Portuguese forward’s age and wage demands.
Metro also note that Bale has fallen out with several players at Real Madrid – although as our La Liga watchers point out – you really cannot believe anything you read in the press especially when it is Spanish based!
We don’t think a move for Bale would get very far and given Real Madrid have sold Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil to accommodate the Welshman, we cannot see them letting another star man leave.
