Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are set for a dramatic deadline day as the Daily Express reveals how they are planning a £67 million double swoop for Wolfsburg’s Kevin De Bruyne and Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.
The two Bundesliga stars have shone this season and there is no surprise that big spender Louis van Gaal is fighting to get reinforcements in before the 11pm deadline as his side bids for a Champions League qualification spot.
The Dutchman has shown that he is prepared to secure lucrative deals after snapping up Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria and Monaco’s Radamel Falcao in the summer.
But despite this heavy spending, the Red Devils are still yet to show their true potential under van Gaal and there has been some unconvincing performances this season.
So it is no shock that van Gaal is pursuing reinforcements in the January transfer window.
Firstly, the former Chelsea midfielder De Bruyne has come on leaps and bounds since leaving Stamford Bridge and has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s best playmakers.
Although he is undoubtedly a great talent, punters in the tavern are questioning whether or not he is the right addition for United, considering the amount of attacking midfielders they currently boast at their disposal.
Whilst Borussia Dortmund captain Hummels has been a long-term target for the Red Devils and is a seen by our regulars as a priority signing over De Bruyne.
Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to keep his towering defender but van Gaal is ready to put the colourful German tactician in a difficult position as he ready to table a take-it-or-leave-it offer of £37 million.
