The Daily Star suggest Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan is desperate to sign a new contract with the Portuguese side, which in-turn hands a major blow to any transfer plans from Manchester United.
It’s a major turnaround from the circumstances in the summer, as reports in August said the Red Devils had agreed a deal to bring the Argentine to Old Trafford.
Whilst United still could secure the services of the South American, a new contract will come alongside a release clause of £25m; a hefty price to pay but one Louis Van Gaal is capable of matching with ease, should he desire.
With Van Gaal’s attack faltering, adding Gaitan into their wide ranks could be the solution- as he would complete an mouthwatering front-trio alongside Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay.
However the punters at the bar have thought about the deal over a few pints and are now declaring they never wanted to sign him anyway.
