Man United want Mourinho to work alongside Van Gaal next season

van gaalManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are gearing up for tomorrow’s FA Cup final and are discussing reports that their new manager could stay put at the club within a new role.

The Sun says the Red Devils want to move Louis Van Gaal into a Director of Football role this summer, before bringing Jose Mourinho into Old Trafford as the new manager.

Van Gaal’s future has been under scrutiny ever since Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in mid-December and Portuguese ace Mourinho has always been the favourite to take the job in Manchester, although he’s been left waiting as United’s form has improved.

Dutch boss Van Gaal failed to land a top-four spot in the Premier League but can clinch the club’s first piece of silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson tomorrow in the showcase final at Wembley, which may also be a fitting goodbye to the manager.

Van Gaal has one-year remaining on his deal at Old Trafford and the initial plan was for assistant boss Ryan Giggs to step-up into the management role for the 2017/18 season, although it appears that plan has changed.
