Manchester United and Liverpool both enjoyed differing fortunes in the summer transfer window, with United adding the big money signing of Romelu Lukaku, while Liverpool signed Mo Salah as their marquee capture.
The Red Devils have started the season the better of the two, and while Salah has impressed, Liverpool look short of options in certain areas of the pitch and look like once again falling short of challenging for the Premier League title.
However, our landlord here at the Tavern thinks that Liverpool have pipped United to a signing who could make all the difference for Jurgen Klopp over the next few seasons.
That player? Next summer’s big money Anfield signing, midfielder Naby Keita.
The all action central midfield ace has been a revelation for his club RB Leipzig this term, and was equally as impressive last time out as he stood out as one of the best players in the Bundesliga.
This form captured the attention of Liverpool and Klopp, and the German has paid big money to secure his signing next summer. It could well be something which Man United live to regret, and much like when Chelsea signed N’Golo Kante from Leicester City, it appears the Old Trafford club are missing out on an ideal replacement for the ageing Michael Carrick.
With Paul Pogba injured for the foreseeable future and United looking light in the middle without him, missing out on Keita could well be something they live to regret as the seasons progress in the coming years.
Liverpool and United fans, what do you think? Will Keita be a success? Let us know in the comments!Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
