The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are forever hoping that Cristiano Ronaldo will re-sign for the club in the future, but recent reports suggest they will target his Real Madrid teammate Gareth Bale this summer.
With every transfer window arrives a fresh set of rumours regarding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar added fuel to the fire following Real’s Champions League final victory last Saturday by cryptically suggesting he will leave the Bernabeu this summer, but his destination remains a mystery.
The resident Red Devils propping up our bar are desperately hoping that their former hero will make a sensational return to Old Trafford during the summer, but according to Spanish media outlet AS, United are ready to offer 140 million euros to secure Bale’s services this summer, although they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich for his signature.
After a relatively disappointing campaign for Bale marred by rumours linking him with a move away from the club as a result of his failure to break into Zinedine Zidane’s first-team, the Welshman stepped off the bench to deliver match-winning cameo on the biggest stage of all last weekend.
Bale’s impact was a timely reminder of his incredible ability to provide the goods at pivotal moments and, if his performance is anything to go by, United could be set to finally replace Ronaldo 9 years after he swapped Manchester for Madrid.
United have turned to the likes of Angel Di Maria and Anthony Martial in his absence to provide the star quality which Ronaldo injected into the club throughout his stint, but nobody has come close to emulating his level of stardom and success thus far.
Bale (valued at £81 million by Transfermarkt) certainly possesses the quality, experience and mentality to fill that void and finally provide United with a player who is held in the elite bracket of individuals in world football.
A club of United’s status deserves and needs a player of Bale’s calibre to entertain the supporters and ensure a genuine title challenge is sustained, so Jose Mourinho must urge the club’s hierarchy to do whatever it takes to finance a deal for Liverpool’s nemesis this summer.
