Our resident Manchester United supporters were relatively happy with their 1-1 FA Cup draw with West Ham at the weekend, but they will be even happier to read in The Daily Star that Juan Mata is desperate to sign a new contract with the club.
The Spanish playmaker joined United from Premier League rivals Chelsea two years ago, with another two years remaining on that deal, which is supposedly worth £130k-a-week.
However, reports indicate that the 27-year old wants to sign a contract extension to remove the doubt surrounding his future at the club, with Jose Mourinho being increasingly linked with the Old Trafford hot-seat.
Portuguese manager Mourinho was in charge at Chelsea when Mata was sold to United and it remains unclear if he would want the midfielder in his squad.
Our landlord asked some Red Devils fans over by the bar if they want to see him stay, and they said that they have been impressed with him in recent weeks after an inconsistent spell earlier in the season.
The majority of United fans here in the Transfer Tavern absolutely love the Spaniard, and would love to see the attacking midfielder remain at Old Trafford for the years to come.
