Man United’s £63m-rated star could ruin Wenger’s final trip to Old Trafford this afternoon

The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were initially disappointed by Alexis Sanchez’s form following his arrival from Arsenal, but his improvement in recent weeks has given them plenty of reason to believe he will come back to haunt his old club this afternoon.

Jose Mourinho welcomes his old-rival Arsene Wenger to Old Trafford this afternoon for the Frenchman’s final visit as Arsenal manager before he departs the club at the end of the season. With United’s place in the top-four more or less secured and Arsenal cut adrift of the Champions League places there’s very little for both sides to play for this afternoon, aside from pride of course.

Clashes between the two clubs have notoriously been feisty affairs down the years during a period of time when the two were competing for dominance at the top of the Premier League, but the complexion of English football has shifted in recent years and taken the edge off somewhat. However, Wenger will be desperate to claim a rare victory at Old Trafford this afternoon to end his Arsenal career on a high.

The Gunners faithful could be set for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon if he is successful in transmitting that feeling to his players, although they will need to be particularly wary of their former star Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez has taken time to find his feet at Old Trafford since completing his transfer from Arsenal in January, but his performances in recent weeks suggest he is beginning to rediscover his best form.

The Chile international (valued at £63 million by Transfermarkt) provided 2 assists in United’s scintillating Manchester derby victory three weeks ago, and he continued to prove he is a big player for the big occasion by notching United’s equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend. His ability to produce the goods against quality opposition has been firmly illuminated of late, and if he continues in the same vein against his former club then he will surely ruin his old manager’s final visit to the theatre of dreams.
