There is serious drama here for Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as The Sun exclusively claim their pursuit of Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas is going nowhere.
The publication believe that the Spanish international – who scored in a friendly victory over Haiti yesterday – will never agree to join Manchester United and has claimed that just like former Gunner Thierry Henry, he will not play for another club in England given his emotional ties to Arsenal.
Quite what United and David Moyes make of this remains to be seen and given it was thought they were preparing a £40 million bid, it seems this story has a while to run yet.
Fabregas for his part is reportedly keen on a move away from the Camp Nou this summer and has joined fellow midfielder Thiago Alcantara in looking for the exit door after failing to break the stronghold of Xavi and Andres Iniesta in the middle of the park.
The Catalan giants feel that United have no serious interest in buying the player and are only making headlines in response to links between Barcelona and Wayne Rooney. Wenger meanwhile is looking to bolster the midfield at the Emirates Stadium and does have the first refusal on Fabregas should Barcelona sell him – potentially paving the way for a dream reunion for Gunners fans.
