Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho finally opens up on Paul Pogba transfer

Since his world-record breaking arrival in Manchester, Paul Pogba has been the talk of the Tavern.

The Man Utd fans in attendance have been proclaiming that he will become the best player in the world, whilst rival fans are suggesting that United overpaid for the Frenchman.

Wherever your opinion lies, there is no denying that Man Utd beat a whole host of top European sides to the signature of Paul Pogba.

And now, several weeks after the fact – Jose Mourinho has revealed exactly how difficult it was to make happen.

Speaking to, Jose Mourinho has described how difficult it was to get Pogba to join United: “Oh! It was hard to convince him”

“I had many [conversations] on the phone, lots of SMS.” he added.

He also confirmed that United were not the only club chasing the Frenchman, adding: “I had to try hard to convince him to choose us instead of the other one.”

It was always expected in the Tavern that a host of clubs were after Pogba, but to see it confirmed is very interesting.

The Man Utd supporters leaning against the bar were particularly interested to hear that it was Mourinho himself that brokered the deal and convinced Pogba to join the club.

Mourinho has become renowned in the Tavern for his private phone calls with prospective players – and it looks like he has worked his magic yet again.

Pogba has made a good, if not spectacular, start to life in Manchester, impressing during his opening few games.

He has however come under fire from the United faithful in the Tavern for his performance in the Manchester Derby over the weekend, with many feeling that he was at fault for their disappointing defeat.
