The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern had been feeling pretty optimistic about this deal...
According to the Evening Standard, Man Utd are concerned that a potential move for Tottenham ace Eric Dier may be impossible – over fears that the Lilywhites will be unwilling to sell to the Manchester giants. Of course, this sentiment not only comes from the notorious difficulty of debating transfers with Daniel Levy – but also given Dier’s significance in the Tottenham first team.
Whilst Dier has not been a regular in the heart of the Tottenham midfield this season, he has regularly featured – typically from the middle of the Tottenham defence.
At Man Utd, though, he would almost certainly be given more of a prominent role in the heart of the midfield – likely taking the place of Michael Carrick long-term. Indeed, his defensive ability would likely fill a void that has been lacking at Old Trafford as of late, with solid tackling and youthful energy both vitally important traits under Mourinho.
That being said, given that this deal looks unlikely, it might be time for Jose Mourinho to look elsewhere. Dealing with Daniel Levy is rarely a pleasant experience, and our landlord thinks that he would never sell a player as good as Dier to a Premier League rival.
