The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for a midfielder to move to Old Trafford this summer…
The Red Devils have somewhat of a midfield crisis on their hands at present, with a serious lack of depth in the position currently causing Mourinho problems. Indeed, with Bastian Schweinsteiger no longer available and Paul Pogba injured, the options for Mourinho are seriously dwindling.
This is something that the manager is looking to solve this summer, though, with Manchester Evening News reporting that a move for Tiemoue Bakayoko is still in the plans of Jose Mourinho. Crucially, however, it appears as though a move could rest on one major condition – Champions League football. According to Manchester Evening News, the opportunity to play in Europe’s elite competition is the aim for Bakayoko, and so if Man Utd don’t reach the promised land this year – they could fall short.
This has worried the Man Utd fans somewhat, given that many are fearful that they might not finish in the top four this season. Indeed, victory in the Europa League is still a possibility – but that is still far from assured.
Indeed, our landlord thinks that this could be indicative of an even bigger issue at Man Utd this season. Big players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba decided to move to Old Trafford last summer despite the lack of European football – but that might not be the case this season. The allure of Jose Mourinho only counts for so much – and so Man Utd’s involvement in the Champions League next season will be vital.
