Man Utd deal for defender ‘will not happen’ this summer – report

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been disappointed with Luke Shaw’s tenure in Manchester so far…

A mix of a lack of faith, a lack of fitness and a couple of horrendous injury blows have left Shaw’s future at Old Trafford looking very bleak, with Jose Mourinho clearly uncertain on what to do with the Englishman.

On his day, of course, he is one of Europe’s best, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations – that much is certain.

Man Utd, then, have a decision to make. He was touted as being the next long-serving Man Utd defender, following in the footsteps of so many before him, but that is now looking unlikely. Signing a replacement is potentially on the cards then, but it doesn’t appear as though Danny Rose will be the player given the role.

According to the Daily Star, Man Utd have ‘ditched’ plans to sign Danny Rose this summer, and whilst the defender wants to move to Old Trafford, it is noted that the move simply ‘will not happen’ this year. With Tottenham hesitant to sell and Man Utd no longer interested, this move looks very unlikely.

Tottenham clearly want to hang on to their best left-back, as he has been a star for the club in recent years, and this will undoubtedly have had an impact on proceedings at Old Trafford.

The Man Utd fans in the pub would love to see him join.

Landlord’s Verdict

If Danny Rose is available, there is no doubt that Man Utd would be keen. He would serve to increase their homegrown contingent, whilst he is also probably the Premier League’s best left-back.

However, Daniel Levy is notoriously difficult to negotiate with, and he won’t want to sell to a rival – so a move is very unlikely. This will have contributed to Man Utd’s decision to pass on a move for now.
