The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are, surprisingly, right behind this deal…
After a stellar start in the Premier League, Everton have come unglued in recent weeks – with many of the Toffees in the Tavern now hoping for a top-half finish in place of the Champions League spot that they were hunting for at the start of the season.
Similarly, Man Utd have struggled in recent weeks – with the Premier League seemingly already out of reach for the Manchester giants.
It would be expected, then, that both clubs would be looking to improve their disappointing sides in January – with the transfer window set to re-open.
Perhaps less predictable however is who Everton boss Ronald Koeman could look to sign – and it would appear that he is set to look a little closer to home than first expected.
According to the Express, Ronald Koeman is plotting a Man Utd raid – with both Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay on his wish-list in January.
Whilst it remains unclear whether the Toffees prefer a loan move or a permanent deal, it would appear that Depay is a much more likely target – with Utd reportedly keen to hold onto Rooney until the end of the season.
This has surprised the Everton fans in the Tavern, with both Depay and Rooney beyond the calibre of player that they were expecting Koeman to target.
Given the poor form of both players for Man Utd, though, the Red Devils in the Tavern are pleased – with many of the Man Utd fans in the Tavern hopeful that the duo will leave sooner, rather than later.
Rooney has fallen out of favour in recent weeks, and has made just 6 starts in the Premier League thus far. Depay has had less of a role all season – and has yet to make a single start in the Premier League thus far.
Our landlord thinks that Koeman could be the man to turn the careers of Rooney and Depay around…
